Agevole Accessibility Toolbar

Description

Agevole adds a small button to your site. It opens a panel where each visitor can adapt the page to their needs:

  • Text size up to 150%
  • Text spacing using the values of WCAG 1.4.12 (line height, letter and word spacing)
  • Readable font
  • High contrast and grayscale
  • Highlight links
  • Stop animations and transitions
  • Visible keyboard focus
  • Large cursor

Choices are remembered on the visitor’s device. The panel itself is built to be accessible: it works with the keyboard (Tab, Enter, Esc), exposes proper roles and states to screen readers, supports Windows high-contrast mode and is isolated from your theme’s CSS (Shadow DOM), so it looks the same on every site.

The interface is available in English and Italian and follows the language of your site.

What it does not do

Agevole only changes the presentation of the page, and only when a visitor asks for it. It does not rewrite your HTML, inject ARIA attributes or apply “automatic fixes”, and it does not make your site compliant with WCAG or the European Accessibility Act. A toolbar can help visitors, but compliance requires accessible content and code.

To learn what to fix, you can scan a page of your site for free with the DACSO accessibility scan (see External services below).

Lightweight and private

  • One small script (about 16 KB, not minified so you can read it), loaded with defer in the footer.
  • No cookies, no tracking, no analytics, no requests to external servers: the script ships with the plugin.
  • Visitor preferences are stored only in their own browser (localStorage).

Optional credits

The “Accessibility tools · Agevole by DACSO” badge and the link at the bottom of the panel are off by default. You can turn them on in Settings Agevole, or place the badge anywhere with the [agevole_badge] shortcode.

External services

This plugin does not contact any external service on its own. It contains links to dacso.it, a website run by DACSO SRL (Italy), which are opened only when a user clicks them:

  • “Scan my home page for free” button (Settings Agevole, visible to administrators only): opens https://dacso.it/accessibilita/ in a new tab with your home page address in the url parameter, so the free accessibility scan form is pre-filled. The scan starts only if you press the button on that page; the scanner then loads that public page and produces a report kept for 24 hours.
  • Optional badge and panel link: point to https://dacso.it/accessibilita/ and are shown only if the site owner enables them.

Installation

  1. Install the plugin from Plugins Add New, or upload the agevole-accessibility folder to /wp-content/plugins/.
  2. Activate it. The button appears at the bottom right of your site.
  3. Optional: choose position and color in Settings Agevole.

FAQ

Will this plugin make my site compliant with WCAG or the European Accessibility Act?

No. No toolbar or overlay can do that. Agevole offers useful display options to your visitors; the free DACSO accessibility scan tells you which problems to fix in your content and code.

Does the plugin collect any data or call external services?

No. It sets no cookies and sends no data. The only links to an external website are the optional badge, the optional panel link and the “Scan my home page for free” button in the settings page, and they are followed only when someone clicks them.

Can I remove the DACSO link?

Yes. It is disabled by default and appears only if you enable it.

Does it conflict with my theme?

The panel lives in a Shadow DOM, so your theme’s CSS cannot change it and its CSS cannot change your theme. Page adjustments are applied only after a visitor turns them on.
